NORTH COUNTRY REGIONAL HOSPITAL IMAGING DEPARTMENT
TO IMPROVE BREAST CANCER DETECTION
The North Country Regional Hospital (NCRH) Imaging Department in Bemidji, MN, recently acquired the use of the Dillon 6800 Gamma Camera to offer Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) as a complementary diagnostic tool to detect breast cancer when post-mammogram evaluation is indicated. With this addition, BSGI is now available to help physicians in the Bemidji area detect early stage cancers, identifying suspicious and difficult-to-interpret breast abnormalities, and differentiate between benign and malignant tumors.
BSGI is for patients who have had a questionable mammogram and who need to know more—quickly. If you have:
• Dense breast tissue
• Suspicious areas on a mammogram
• Lumps that can be felt but not seen with mammography or ultrasound
• Implants or breast augmentation
• Scarring from previous breast surgeries
• Or are on Hormone Replacement Therapy
…you may need the accuracy that the safe, effective, comfortable, and easy BSGI testing quickly provides.
“We find BSGI to be a safe, proven, and effective tool in the early detection of breast cancer when mammography is inconclusive,” said Dr. Baharak Bagheri “Even though mammography will remain a primary screening method, when we encounter a challenging breast case, we can count on BSGI to help deliver accurate and fast results.”
For the early detection of breast cancer, the BSGI functional imaging technique is an excellent diagnostic complement to mammography. It works on the cellular level to help tell the difference between cancerous and benign tissue. BSGI is a quick way to know more when you have a questionable mammogram.
